The cold, hard facts about winterizing your home

Winters can be hard in Vermont – on you, on your car and especially on your home. And if you think winters seem long and endless normally, just wait until something goes wrong. Everyone’s been through, or knows somebody who’s been through, the pain and hassle of frozen pipes, roof damage, power loss or worse. Luckily, with planning and forethought there is a lot you can do prevent most of the more expensive – and dangerous – problems from happening, so you can relax and enjoy what winter has to offer. Like shoveling, for instance.
The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a fairly average winter this year, but we all know how often predictions come true. “Plan for the worst” is the best policy, and we’ve included the following tips and tricks to help keep freezing temperatures, ice, snow and wind from causing severe damage to your home and property.
