Did you know that money spent at local merchants circulates thorugh the local economy 15 times, which is more than twice that of non-local businesses. When economists talk about the velocity of money, many people assume it refers to how fast they can spend it (that’s a budgeting issue, and a topic for another time). What it really means is how fast money circulates through the local economy. In that case, the faster the better. You would never throw money out the window, right? Except that for most Vermonters, money is going right out the window – not to mention chimney, walls, doors and a bunch of other places. There are year-round benefits to a more efficient home, but winter is generally when they will be the most obvious. That means it’s time to get started.
